What’s in a name?
25 Aug 2008
When looking for a name for a genealogy program, you quickly get names like roots, ancestors, generations or family... which are good names in the sense that they describe the context and what it is about. Another category of names often points to functionality like family tree of generation tracker... We wanted a different name that could distinguish itself from the two categories described above, and came up with the idea of blood. Development
The word “blood” has no gender, doesn’t relate to a specific culture, religion or other... but is still very personal.
It’s in our blood is an expression we all know and use to defend who we are. Names like bloodline fell too much in the previous categories, so we played around a little bit and found that iBlood and MyBlood where the two most interesting.
As the application is developed on Windows and Mac, iBlood could do well for the Mac part, but is focussing on the “i” part, and genealogy is about the family.
MyBlood is still stressing the fact that brothers and sisters have the same blood. The logo is currently displaying red blood particles in a circle.
Suggestions for another logo are welcome.
